Mic-Key? Bard Button?

When I had the tube pulled, he did just that... pull it. It really only hurt for a second, I had been really worried about it hurting (like you), but it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting.

I have a mic-key now, and it's a little too bulky to just slap a band-aid over at the beach. I ended up buying this bathing suit which covers it perfectly:

</a>
I can't say anything about having a bard, since I've only ever had a mic-key, but I'm pretty happy with my button. Anything is better than a tube! It's generally not noticeable under my clothing, and like someone else mentioned, the interlocking tubing extension is nice.

Good luck!

I had my peg replaced with a Mic-Key button last December. Like juliepie, they just grabbed it and yanked it. It definitely hurt (pain similar to what I felt after waking up from having the peg placed), but only for a couple of seconds. They offered sedatives and lidocaine, but that would have required an IV and heart monitor, and I was just in a hurry to get it over with. Even though the pain wasn't bad, I am definitely glad that they succeeded on the first try. If they had to yank it again, I don't know if I would have been okay with that.

As for the Mic-Key, I love it. It's low-maintenance, low-profile, and easy enough to change (though I've only done it myself once). I just went to the beach in a bikini for the first time last weekend (without covering the button), and I was a bit nervous, but I quickly forgot about it and just had fun. Depends on how self-conscious you are, I guess.

Also, I TOTALLY understand the fear of anesthesia. I was MUCH more worried about that than anything else for my surgery. When the prep nurse asked if I had concerns, all I said was that I wanted to make sure they wouldn't let me stop breathing while under. The last few seconds before going out were very scary to me. Also, I didn't come out of it well. I couldn't get my O2 sat above 90% for a long time, and I was freaking out. Apparently I grabbed a random nurse and hugged her while she was trying to change my IV. I don't have any recollection of this.

Anesthesia in general is one of my biggest fears, and I will never have another surgery unless it's necessary.
