Military Spouses with CF

Hmm, I'm not a military spouse, but I hope I will be someday cuz Brian is in the Navy and I'm totally in love with him. So this is all really interesting to me. If we got married and I keep my insurance through work (my company pays the entire premium and almost anything is covered 100%) which would be the primary?

Your work would be primary, it's always the insurance YOU carry in YOUR name that is the primary. Tricare would be secondary.

If you went on disability and recieved medicare, medicare would also be the primary payor and Tricare for life the secondary. This one doesn't make too much sense to me, but oh well????!!!

Julie....I ??? Medicare being secondary. Maybe its different with Government/GI Insurance, but with regular group health insurance, Medicare is Secondary & the Other insurance is primary as long as the person who holds the private insurance is working. For example...My husband has B/C thru his job so as long as he is working his B/C is primary & my Medicare is secondary. UNLESS a patient is end stage renal failure then Medicaire becomes primary for a whole set of other reasons that dont apply to the matter at hand. Should he stop working then his B/C would be secondary for me.

That's what Mark and I thought too, because that's how the rest of the UNITED STATES works. But NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo, THe military has to do it all A*s backwards <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> We realized this after all of our claims were denied and we recived a bill for a few thousand. With Tricare and Tricare only, Medicare and Mediaid are PRIMARY payors and Tricare for Life is secondary (he use to be Tricare Prime but it's tricare for life now that he has medicare). Very strange..... I know.

I agree military care is sub-standard.... not only that, but you usually can't keep your docs since they come in and out as they're stationed other places. So, I agree that military care leaves something to be desired. I also get referrals to different docs off-base. I was also told that ANY other insurance will be considered PRIMARY insurance regardless of what it is, and Tricare is ALWAYS secondary if you have another insurance. I also think this is ridiculous, cause I'm still dwindling down my own insurance before the federal govt. will help. URGH!
