mixing colistin

The boys are doing colistin IVs for the first time and I am mixing the doses at home. The colistin powder is very solid even after adding the 2ml of water. There are still chunks of med after swishing the bottle for several minutes.

We've mixed other ABX this way and never had the same thing happen. Just curious if this is always the way with colistin?

It takes a while to dissolve. I neb it, so I prepare it before I do the other meds. By the time I'm ready for it, all the powder has dissolved.

Jane-same here when I was nebbing it I prepped it first.

I foudn shoving it in my vest when I was vesting woudl accelerate the dissolution if I was in a hurry <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
