I was tapering down from 20mg twice a day to 15 mg twice a day.....I am still not doing great so my CF clinic is bumping me up to 30mg twice a day for 2 days.

I picked it up tonight and the pharmacist told me I should wait until morning to take it or I will be awake all night.

Well-hello! I haven't been able to sleep on this stuff and thought I had to take it 12 hours apart! I had been taking it at 7am and 7pm. He told me to take it when I get up, and then again in the afternoon. I had NO idea I could do this.

Does anyone else do this? Also-they put me on 30mg twice a day (which will end Thursday).....I am also going into see them that day. I am assuming I will have to taper down-but they didn't write the Rx for me....I guess I will ask them when I am there on Thursday.

I am wondering if I should take my old dose of 15mg tonight and start the new dose of 30mg in the morning....or take none tonight (last taken was 7am) and take the 30mg in the morning......or do as the CF clinic says and take the 30mg tonight-which I really don't want to do.

I was on 30mg a day and was told to take in the morning. However, I believe it really kicks in after about 7 hours. This meant I was having real trouble sleeping.

I resolved the issue by taking at night (just as I was going to sleep), which helped me get up in the morning and have energy in the daytime. It worked for me!

Thanks for the feedback!

At my highest, I was on 60mg per day-I took 30 when I woke up and 30 around 3-4pm. Not sure if it helped....I am just glad to be off the stuff!

I once took 60 all at one time and that was NOT good....won't try that again.

I've had this experience with a med that causes severe insomnia too. Sometimes taking it RIGHT before sleep, so you're already sleeping before it reaches peak levels in your system, works out better than taking it several hours before bed giving it a chance to reach it's highest level, leaving you wide awake just when you want to sleep. I have been on that med for a long time and that has definitely worked out the best for me when a nighttime dose is needed.

Prednisone causes insomnia and agitation for Emily no matter how she takes it, unfortunately- but she needs a high dose for her weight; 20mg bid at 50lbs the last 3 times she needed it. Lower doses don't work when she's really sick. Usually we can start tapering that dose after 7-10 days and it takes a couple weeks of tapering to get her off completely.

Andrew's maintenance dose is 10 mg every other day, which we always give him in the morning. Otherwise, he has terrible night sweats. When we do bursts, he starts out at 60 per day and tapers down to his maintenance dose. Even o 60 mg per day, he takes it all together, in the morning at breakfast. I never knew you could split it up! I'll have to ask our doctor about that next time.

I have been on various doses of Prednisone since January. I think each body probably processes it a little differently.

I have found that for me taking it in the morning w/ breakfast (I try for before 8) leads to it hitting around 3 in the afternoon and that "high" so to speak lasts till about 10 or 11. Then I can usually get 4 or 5 hrs of sleep.
