i moved out on my own when i was 19. i was still within about 20 mins of my parents. but it was definelty different. i loved it cause back at home i had a 16 year old brother who loved to pick fights where ever he could and create drama. so moving out was nice. i worked full time to pay the bills and i must say i didn't do my medicine right all the time. so that is something that when you move out you must stay on top of. i moved out in april right after my 19th birthday and got married in november of that year so i wasn't alone for very long. but about a month after i got married i had home iv's and my husband was a great big help on pulling my meds out of the fridge so i didn't have to get up twice. just make sure you're near family cause family is a very important thing and a very good support system. just make sure you look at all your pros and cons of moving out. and maybe even when you have your transplant you might consider moving home until you recover a little bit so that it could put your family a little more at ease cause you will always be their baby. my mom always reminds me of that. and it's harder on my mom now (2 years later) because i live farther away. but just think about everything. good luck to you though!

Go for it Kayla! I moved out when I was 19 too and it was great. I moved in with my brother who bought a condo in Detroit and lived with him for 3 years. I was going to school and working just down the street. Then I moved out on my own about 1 mile from my bro and his now wife. We were about 30 minutes from my parents which was great because a few times I did need them to take me to the hospital and help me out.

Moving out for the first time is very exciting but like semperfiohana says stay on top of your meds..I let them slip for a teeny bit and then got right on track. Think about grocery shopping because that was my biggest hang up..we didn't park right by the entrance to the buildings so that was hard. My brother bought us a cart to use to take the groceries up and that really helped.

So I say go for it and have FUN but keep your family and good friends close to you in case you need them.

I think it's great that you want to move out. I think I can pretty much agree with everyone else on this board when they said:

- Keep family close by
- Keep up with your meds
- Washer and Dryer inside so you don't have to haul laundry outside
- Get help with carrying in groceries
- Park close by

Good luck and have fun! let us know if you need anything!
