mrsa and ports

Hi my name is Ian and i have a child (Jordan) who is 11 years and has cf, Jordan is to have a port fitted at the end of Jan and i am really concerned because Jordan has got MRSA and i was just wondering if anybody had a port fitted with MRSA or new of anybody that could shed some light on this subjet thx
also jordan is very sporty and playes a lot of football will having a port fitted restrict him in anyway thx Ian

I got MRSA when I was 16 and a port placed when I was 18. No problems, no infection. I still have it almost 5 years later, and it works wonderfully.

As for sports, they tell you not to do any really high-impact sports with a port because if it gets knocked around, it could become dislodged. That's something you'll have to ask the doctor, though.

All I know is I love my port and it's 100% worth it. But I don't do sports, so you'll have to check into those specifics with your doc.
