Very little data seems to be out there regarding this subject as it directly applies to my family's situation. If there is anyone out there that has knowledge on this please let me know. If there's any doctor or patients that have dealt with this situation (or with cepacia) I'd love to hear from you especially.
Isaac (my 3 mo. old son) showed up genetically to carry two cf mutations. He is currently not showing any signs of cf. He had his first cf checkup and they did all the annual stuff (chest xray, blood, throat culture, etc.). Everything came back normal except his throat culture showed MRSA. They say this is highly unusual and the doctor and fellow are discussing their plan of action. I will hear from them tomorrow with their suggestion. I reminded the nurse practitioner that delivered this news to me that I recently cultured MRSA for the first time in my lungs (yep it's true... I hadn't posted about it yet) . I wondered if maybe he got it through my breastmilk since I'd breastfed him within 20 min. of him getting cultured. I don't have mastitis but I did have it at one point (he was 2 weeks old) and nursed through it as directed. Keep in mind the inaccuracy of throat cultures. He might have had MRSA in his mouth but not in his lungs or even throat for that matter.
I read articles about mothers with MRSA skin breakouts giving their infant MRSA but would this be different because I likely colonize it?
