I have had the same problem, except ppl dont know about my MRSA. I am a substitute teacher and am thus in many different schools on a weekly basis. I was concerned, as was my mother, about the contagious-ness (? maybe a word) of my MRSA so I called my doc. The nurse called me back and eased my tensions. What Emily says is right, but the only thing I want to question is that I thought my doc office told me that I could POTENTIALLY be contagious to an open cut..BUT that is only if I rub a lung oyster into someones cut.
They also explained that there are different strains of MRSA and the ppl who have died from it, have the kind that is RESISTANT to ALLLLLL abx. The kind that most CF ppl have is NOT RESISTANT to all abx, hence why the abx work to slow the infection. That is why some abx still work for me at least.
And like they keep saying, everyone has MRSA, its just not harmful to MOST ppl.
A related story to the stoning you Emily...I was in the teachers room at work today and a teacher walks in. And not tthat I know her situation or her immune system, but she walked in and says "God I feel like with all this Staph stuff I am washing my hands all the time." I just sat there like...laughing in my head, like little do you know you have a MRSA person right next to you...LOL. And if she had listened to the news she would know that everyone has MRSA...
