MRSA

I understand the annoyance with the news media and its coverage and I also agree that a LOT of the news covered today, is blown waaay out of proportion. However, as a mother of a CFer, who does NOT culture MRSA, I am 200% behind the fight with MRSA. The cleaning, taking extra precautions, closing schools down, and so on to me are reasonable steps when an MRSA breakout occurs. The fact is, MRSA is not the common cold and should not be treated lightly.

I totally back their efforts, but for me....hand washing, hand washing, hand washing and even avoiding some areas are my way of avoiding this bug....even if its not 100% guarantee!

I have no problem with people being safe regarding MRSA. My problem is that it's been around forgoddamnever and only now that it's attacked a healthy kid, does it matter to the news.

It's like when people die in Iraq. If it's not our soldiers, we don't care. Or here, if it's an inner city African American kid that gets shot, nobody gives a damn. But the second it's an upper-middle class white kid, the news jumps all over it.

It's disgusting.

Thats what NEWs is all about. News is just that NEWS. Chronically ill people acquiring bugs is not news, drug dealers killing each other, makes the news, but it really isn't anything out of the everyday ordinary. But a white business man being robbed and shot, now that's NEWS....its not suppose to happen in our society. Neither are healthy not at risk people suppose to be getting MRSA at the rate they are. It makes me wonder what is going on in the enviroment.

MRSA has killed a few people in NJ, I think that is why it is getting more attention than usual. Plus I don't believe it is similar to what CFers usually deal with; the MRSA they've been talking about is the skin infection type. Our CF doc said it was different?
