just curious to know how long anyone has had the mucoid form of pseudomonas....our doc at johns hopkins says it takes approx. 9 years to turn from non-mucoid to mucoid..but i was interested in seeing how long anyone has dealt with the mucoid version of pseudomonas????</end quote></div>

9 years? About 2 years ago Bek cultured positive for non-mucoid and mucoid pseudomonas. I don't remember the meds she was put on, but she hasn't cultured positive for it since then. Is this something that goes away with treatment? From reading some of the other replies, I'm just wondering if maybe it's just not being detected?

to the post above: my daughter just had her first bronch and there was no pa(even though i know it never "really" goes away, it wasnt cultured)...the way hopkins described it to me is that ... it starts out as non mucoid then turns to mucoid and the approx period of time from the initial onset of pa to mucoid is 9 years. that is of course if the non mucoid is found RIGHT AWAY and aggressivley treated..which was in my daughters case. there are alot of different med articles out there that explain the transition from non mucoid to mucoid...but i was just wondering how it was for others.

Well, it obviously doesn't always take 9 years from non-mucoid to mucoid. M is only 7. Its not remotely possible that he's had PA for 9 years. Its possible that he had the PA before it was found in culture 4 years ago. But, He was bronch'd 5-6 years ago and it was not there at that point. It was also not there when he spent 2ish months in the hospital 4 years ago for a bowel obstruction gone wrong that nearly cost him his life. He first cultured it months after that hospital stay and I still question whether it was a nosacomil infection like the MSSA that went septic in his port and nearly killed him.
