Mucus VS Mucous

Here follows some useless information that I recently discovered (2 minutes ago):
Is it mucous or mucus?
Apparently Mucous is the adjective and Mucus is the noun.
In other words "My mucous membranes secrete way too much mucus."

Who knew...and here I always thought it's different countries spelling it differently. (mmm...wonder if it will behave better now that I can address it by its correct title?)

That's right Lene. I learned this in training to teach natural family planning. "The mucous glands in the cervix produce mucus".
