So I'm now 9 days on IV meds and I'm noticing that what I'm coughing up is just tasting nastier and getting darker.

Its a very dark brown color (it was greenish when I came in) and there is blood in it (normal for me though).

I am not coughin a whole lot anymore, but I still feel very junky.

I just started doing pulmozyme if that matters.

Anyone else have worse sputum days later???

This happens to my daughter all the time. Her doctor explained that as the antibiotics do their job her lungs start to let go of all the junk down there. She always sounds so much worse and produces so much more junk on a PICC.

It sounds like old stuff that is finally getting broken up. Remember that the mucous is very thick & when we are sick it takes awhile for the meds to get through the layers.

As long as the red isnt fresh, bright red I wouldnt worry. It sounds normal.

Especially with the nastier taste to it.
