And lack of potassium tho I find for me those cramps usually occur in my toes tho I have had them in the side of my hands. You know the ones where your toes/fingers curl up & its painful, but for some morbid reason you are laughing about it. Like hitting the funny bone type thing!

Wow, it's nice to know *why* this happens! In the past month my toes (what a weird thing) have been cramping up in the middle of the night. I wake up and they're freaking out and it hurts so bad! I had no idea why. So it could be potassium and/or magnesium? Hmmm.

In '95, I was actually on a field trip to Paris of all places, (an art school thing), and while I was in front of the Louvre it was like lightning struck me and out of the blue all of my joints became so achey I could hardly move. I could hardly explain it to the people around me at the time because they just thought I was a freak. I felt like I was 150 years old for almost my whole there, one week! I never had an episode like that before or again, but maybe it was because of CF. I never knew.

This actually happens quite frequently with me. The first time was when I was in Kindergarten and I had to crawl up the stairs. My mom had to feed me. It was awful. Then it didn't happen until I was a jr. in High School and has happened countless times since. It is the most horrible pain I have felt. A few weeks ago was the worst it had ever been adn my husband had to roll me over because it hurt to bad for me to move myself. I just cried, and I have a pretty high pain tolerance. Does anybody get red bumps all over there body with it. I get that and it is the most peculiar thing. My docs can't seem to figure it out. I have had biopsys on them and everything. I can't pinpoint what it is that causes the flare ups of muscle aches. there really doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. It is good to know that I am not the only one but I sure feel for all of you that have it to. Its a bugger.

Actually if you do a search on this the magnesium thing will pop up again.

If my magnesium levels get too low I will wake up out of a deep sleep and sit up because it feels like somebody has jammed a hot scalding knife into [insert muscle name here]. Or a great big charley horse has happened. The pain is beyond words, and the area is usually so sore afterwards. Come to find out my magnesium levels are responsible for it, if you are having muscle/joint pain it's a good idea to get a complete blood workup, chances are it is magnesium, but it could be something else.
