Muscle pain

About a year ago i sneezed and something cracked in my jaw. (weird i know)!!
Since then i haven't been able to open my mouth properly(some say thats a blessing LOL!!), ie i can't yawn and chewing food is really painful.
I have recently been to see a dental speacialist who said it is muscular even though my jaw still cracks and it feels swollen.
They are gonna give me excercises to do and a guard to wear at night on my bottom teeth to relax my jaw (can't wait)
The pain is really bad just lately and i struggle when i eat which isn't good considering the clinic have told me i need to put some weight on.

Just wondered if anyone else has suffered with a similar sort of problem and if anyone can recommend something i could safely take for the pain i tend to steer clear of aspirin due to hemoptysis

hey there...

I don't know how much help I can be here, but I have pain in my jaw as well. Sometimes my jaw gets stuck or locks and sometimes it just plain aches no matter what. I think it's TMJ as does my orthodontist. Did you ever have braces or dental work done (that can be the cause)? I was given a mouth gaurd that doubles as a retainer AND positioner. It has helped a lot. Sometimes chewing still hurts, most times there's a lot of cracking with yawning, etc. Maybe if you still have a problem with the pain after you get your mouth guard, try putting heat on it or eating only soft foods for a while (like a week or so). However, if it's TMJ, those things won't do much good. Hope this helped...at least a little. If you can't/won't take aspirin, tylenol might help a little as well, though I found only ibuprofen or naprocen worked for me. Best of luck with your jaw.

I havent had it recently, but remember having it AFTER going to the dentist years ago.

Once in awhile it acts up, but nothing that lasts.

I have a friend who has it really bad. She has gone for massage, accupunture & chirpractor for TMJ. She needs all 3 because just 1 doesnt seem to work.

I'm going next week to see the dentist and they are fitting me with some sort of mouthguard so hopefully it will work like yours did Erin.
They also suggested eating soft food and heat for the pain so i'll try those and see how it goes. They are gonna give me some jaw excercises too.
I did wear a brace when i was younger cos my front teeth stuck out so maybe that has something to do with it.

Thanks for your help
