Musty Smell in Closet

I just read up on a bunch of the other mold, water damage threads in here. Our closet smells musty, but I don't see anything. I'm thinking just b/c I can't see anything, certainly doesn't mean mold is not there. The shower is on the other side of the closet wall, so obviously that's where the musty smell is coming from. Do I just tell my landlord to get it checked out, even though we can't see where it's coming from? I would hate for it to be some major problem.

Kelly to a totally healthy
person mold can be very deadly. Put CF into the mix its even worse.
I know you know this. I just thought I would say it anyways!
When in doubt check it out!
Mold needs a perfect condition to grow in and is very uncommon in
California because its drier here than most of the rest of the
country. But having said that Im sure it can still grow especially
if its next to shower that is constantly used ( keeping it moist)
and being in the closet its dark which is optimal for mold growth.
If your closet is painted and if its in the walls most likely the
paint would be bubbled. If its under the carpet, you can lift up
the carpet from the edges and look, ( Be Sure To Wear A Mask,or
better yet have someone else look). Just a few ideas! But be sure
to check it out. A musty smell is sure cause for
concern.
More than likely you have a leak in the wall between the closet and shower, there is probably all kinds of mold in there. Have it checked out by a mold specialist! They can tell you what you can do to get rid of it and keep it under control.
