My complicated kids part II

OMG, what a day. Long story.

Yesterday the doctors told us that the kids could go home today. The nurses told us this morning that Jesse was going but they didn't know about Josh, we'd have to wait until rounds. I told everyone that if they decided to keep Josh another day, Jess would stay too- easier on everyone. The docs on rounds said. ok they can both go today. They also said that preliminary testing came back for sensitivities for the bacteria, but that no decisions will be made until final tests come back (a few weeks). So we call everyone we know, pack up the room, get the home therapy company scheduled etc...

At two our NP called to say they had hit "a snag" with the discharge. Apparently our own doctor wanted to keep Josh until the final testing comes back, in case she has to change his meds, she thought she'd get it soon. I was angry, the kids were angry, the nurses were angry NOT because they wanted to keep Josh another day, but because they had already told the kids they were going.

So I complained, told them it wasn't fair to do that to them, so they checked with the doc again, and she said "ok go home, we'll figure out the new medicine another time.

Ok so we finshed packing, got the last dose of meds, filled discharge papers,WHEN
the doctor came up to tell us she had just recieved the final testing and was keeping Josh until at least tomorrow at which time they could consult to get a final decision.

OK, WHAT?

Then they said well, you can still take Jess home. Oh good, one pissed off kid and one kid going home without anyone to stay with him- just great.

Sorry this is a long story. We finally decided with Jesse's permission that it was best for the family to keep them both there. I'm going home, my husband is coming up and we unpack the luggage. tomorrow is another day, but I hope it goes better than today did.

Jane, I am so sorry that your family is going through this. I most definitely would have had a couple glasses of wine (possibly the whole bottle!) even with having to go to work the next day. I hope today is a better day for you and yours.

Hi Jane - That stinks! The last time Jason was in it happened to us 2 times. It was such a tease! The right hand and the left hand at most hospitals do not communicate so well. Hopefully today you got better news. Jo Ann - mom of Jason 8 w/cf

Thanks everyone.

Jesse came home just now YAY. It was hard to leave Josh behind, but he is feeling better this week so as soon as the testing comes back on the tigecycline, he can go (probably Friday). It will be a month on Saturday.
