My fiance also has CF. It doesn't effect her lungs, but she does have the digestive problems that go along with it, and she is in need of a liver transplant. All her life the doctors have told her she won't live to see this age then that age so on and so forth, and she is now 24. Now they tell her she's on her own schedule for how long she' s going to live. Your friend should be fine so long as she keeps a positive attitude. As for getting the transplant, she should be eligible for medical coverage under social security. Check out their web page. It's a little difficult to read through, but keep at it. In the mean time, reassure your friend that she'll be alright.

I would suggest that your friend's mom contact the Social Worker at her CF Clinic. That person should be able to let them know what financial resources are available. Also, this is sad to say, but there should be money available through organ transplant organizations from people that have raised money, but died before getting transplanted. That money I thought was passed on to another individual, why not Shire? I can't think of the organization--UNOS? Maybe someone else here on the boards could help with a name of a transplant organization that may have money available?
