My experience/opinion: You can play as rough as you want with a port as long as it's not accessed at the time, it just becomes like another part of you. At least I always roughed around with mine, I never treated it like it was fragile. I wouldn't want to take a direct punch to a port, but then again i just wouldn't want to take a direct punch <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">.
