My SSDI Claim

Everyone was right. I got my first denial letter because I was working. I had actually quit my job before I received the letter though, so I went ahead and appealed it. I'm currently waiting for a decision. As of the moment, I meet all 3 requirements under the SSA guidelines for CF. I've already contacted Beth Suffian incase I am denied again, which I just feel like I will be. The lady at her office told me to send them my medical records for the past year so they can determine whether or not to take my case. I'm still waiting for those from my hospital though so I can send them off. For those of you that have used her, does she seem to speed up the process and is it hard to get her to take your case? If anyone has any info that would be helpful for me PLEASE let me know. I did write down EVERY med and treatment that I had to do and the amount of time it takes to do it. I also included in there the time it takes to disinfect nebulizers after each use. All in all, it added up to about 4.5 hours a day in treatment time.

Hi Sara,

I used Beth's office and it was a huge help. They helped me with my initial application. I started the process in July of last year, and received my acceptance letter in October. I meet 2 out of the 3 criteria. It sounds like all the information you gathered will definitely help them. I know the CFF had given her firm a grant to help CFers file at the time I was applying so that might still be available.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, I can try to help.

Good luck!

I used Beth's office too. I applied in January and still have not heard anything! Sara, when did you apply? Just wondering how long it took for your letter to arrive from SSA.

Also, I might be wrong, but because you are appealing and not applying, Beth's office may charge you a fee. The initial application help through them is free, but not sure about appeals.

Beth and her partners are without a doubt the reason that I was able to get my disability, I met it under several different guidelines, not CF but pulmonary, and a few other things. She hands down sped things up for me, You will have to pay for her services just like you would any other service. I believe their is a grant to help with the initial application but if you are denied you need to sign a contract with her, the same as any other disability lawyer,

The thing is Beth has many, many connections and she is not afraid to use them. She has a direct link with someone in Congress that is looking at some of the cases that are denied for the most ridicules reasons.

For me, she was able to apply for a financial hardship appeal and after being denied two or three times, within 48 hours of that appeal going in, I had an approval.

I highly recommend her,

Jennifer

I'm still waiting to hear a decision on my appeal, but I have sent my medical records (the ones that I've been able to get anyways) to Beth Sufian's office. When they get them, they said they will look over them and decide whether or not they can take my case. I definetly qualify under at least 2 of the 3 and my last PFT actually met the FEV1 requirement, so I qualified under all 3. I've been in contact with the disability people because, like me, they had a hard time getting the correct medical records. They finally received some of them, although they are missing the notes from at least 11 of my clinic visits from the last year. They only received my last 3 PFTs, but they said what they have will suffice. They keep telling me that the PFTs are the most important records that the disability doctors look at, so that worries me. I thought they took into account all of your medical records. My last FEV1 was 1.60 (SSA requirement for my height is 1.65). I also got admitted to the hospital when I did that PFT, which was just last month. I'm just worried though because my FEV1 is usually around 1.95. If they had ALL my records, it would show that I've had bronchitis or pnuemonia 4 times in the past year (2 of them requiring a hospital stay, therefore counting at 2 each). I also do Cayston & Tobi. I just hope they aren't basing my case solely on my FEV1!
