nebs in hospital

my hospital doesnt change them. you just get given however many for each different med at the start and you just wash them everytime.

i get new nebs for each treatment. and if i don't, i hide my old ones and they are forced to give me new ones.

the reality is that once a neb is used, it's full of a CFer's bacteria. if you store it in a bag or let it hang out without washinging it & boiling it to destroy the bacteria, the bacteria grow in the neb. then hours later when you use the neb again, you're breathing in the bacteria. counter-productive.

get a new med or each treatment. otherwise, why are you wasting your time in the hospital on anti-biotics???

Well at the hospital I used to go to the gave me new nebs every day or every 3 treatments of something along those lines - unless like others I hid them.

At the new hospital I am going too I seem to recall them bringing in a new neb every treatment. I know they brought in a new neb for each TOBI and Pulmo dose - maybe not albuterol though. I can not recall for certain.

The first day while i was in the hospital , after doing my Pulmozyme i watched the RT rinse out the neb cup and out it back in the bag wet. As soon as he left i tossed it into the trash. When the next Rt came in i told him i want a new one for each treatment because using tap water from a dirty sink isnt the best idea for cleaning a neb cup. They never argued with me and gave me a new one each time.

Our hospital rinses neb cups with sterile water and lays them on a paper towel to dry.

THEN they lay them out on the same little shelf where they put all the other supplies, flashlights, pens etc. yuck. I ask if we can get new ones every time. If a nurse says no, I just throw them away- ooops fell on the floor<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
