nebs in hospital

When you are in the hospital do you get new neb cups with each treatment? My hospital tries to save and reuse them from one treatment to the next, so I get one neb cup for abuterol, one for pulmozyme, one for Tobi, etc. They get changed every few days at my request. In between treatments the cups are stored in a seperate bag each in my room. I am now thinking I should get new sterile ones every treatment. I am wondering how this works at your hospital? Also, do you get a Pari LC plus neb cups or another type, ie disposible? If disposible, do you even get a disposible neb for Tobi? Thanks

I get a neb for each med, but they last for the day unless its gets dropped etc. I get a new setup for the next day.

(fortunately, i am <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> ) i guess if you were in for a while they would exchange them once a week. it seems really gross and germy to me. last time my nurse told me to wash them in the tap water there! he said to do what i normally do and i was thinking, 'k, i need a big pot and a burner." geesh.

This really ticked me off when I was in the hospital. I don't even think they cleaned them between treatments. When a different RT came in I asked about it and they expressed concern and said it should never happen, but they realized this was probably going on. It's a real shame you should even have to bring this up with the doctor or rt, but such is life these days.

I noticed that Reece was NOT getting new ones, so I just put the old ones in the trash, so they HAD to bring in new ones!!!! A mommas gotta take care of her young!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
I would bring up that you were told by the CFF to boil after each use OR get a new set of cups....this is what you do at home & you expect it to be done here as well. This is your health NOT theirs! *snap snap* <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My son had a Pari for his pulmozyme that got rinsed with tap water and sat uncovered on the counter (ewww!), and was replaced every few days. I was told I could take them home when we left, so almost every night I took them so they'd have to use a new one the next day. He constantly had different RT's so they never seemed to notice, prob just thought it was the previous RT. If I'm gonna use a new one every treatment at home and boil every day then they're gonna use a new one too! For his albuterol they used a new disposable one with new tubing every treatment. They said this was a new rule. I did end up with 3 new Pari LC plus out of the deal! (I swear they said I could take them home and even hung a plastic bag up for the RT's to put them in when finished instead of throwing them out. I didn't steal them, promise!) I took the disposables home too for his albuterol, tons of them, but they didn't stand up to boiling so they were trashed.

my hospital doesnt change them. you just get given however many for each different med at the start and you just wash them everytime.
