I'm in a bookclub and it's my turn next month! I don't have a book picked out yet! Anyone have any great books to suggest? I really want to find a good mystery one, but any will do! Thanks<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

'Wish' - by Melina Gerosa Bellows

I just finished reading it, and its SOOO good. Its about a woman who has a twin brother who has Autism. Its pretty much about her whole life, and what she's gone through, etc.

i just read Night by Elie Weisel, it's short but really good with a lot to discuss. It's about his experience during the holocaust. Oh and it's not very expensive <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Fiet's Vase - and Other Stories of Survival Europe 1939-1945
Author: Alison Leslie Gold
This is a compilation of true stories from the Holocaust. It is inspirational and amazing. Great to read even if you are not reading it for your book club.

When We Were Gods: A Novel of Cleopatra
Author: Colin Falconer
This is a fictional portrayal of the life of Cleopatra from the view of Cleopatra. It is great, but a bit long. It is wonderful to read if you have the time. I read it when I was on IVs last year, it is one of my favorites.

Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague
Author: Geraldine Brooks
A fictional story about a historical town in England and their experience with the plague and being quarantined. It is told from the eyes of a maid in the town. I like it it is based on a historical event, but fictionalized. Long enough to get the point across, not so long you lose total interest. Another one of my favorites.

I just started reading Night and have heard nothing but great things from the people I know that have already read it. I don't know the kinds of books your club reads, but most of the books I like are based on historical events (i.e: Holocaust, the Plague, wars and things), so if that is not what interests you then the books I mentioned may not appeal to you.

Edited to add: I just now saw the comment on you wanting a good mystery book. The DaVinci Code is great along with Angels and Demons (the precursor to DaVinci Code). Another book by Dan Brown that is pretty good is Digital Fortress - it is based on computer stuff, but same premise as the other two books. Suspenseful and puzzles along with a whodunnit/whoisit kind of thing.

The Red Queen by Margaret Drabble.
I started reading it the other day while in clinic. Fascinating so far. Starting finals week though so I've been unable to finish. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

A Little Love Story by Roland Merullo (interestingly enough this is about a pre-tx CFer)

Bond of Iron: Master and Slave at Buffalo Forge by Charles B. Dew (easy read, despite the fact that it's over 400 pgs long.

Not mystery, but interesting reads anyway.
As for Night, I had to read that for class, so I have a very hateful memory of the book. I dislike having to read anything I don't want to.

A page turner for me: The Breathtaker - Alice Blanchard.
It's a murder mystery with tornados involved. I thought it was really exciting.

Let us know what you end up choosing.

I just finished "We need to Talk about Kevin" by Lionel Shriver. Awesome and brutally poignant book written by the mother of a boy who murdered many students in his high school (fictional). The mother writes letters to her husband about how she fell short being a mother and possbily contributed to his downward spiral and also how he never was a "good" boy. VERY interesting perspective. I was enthralled from start to finish. Lionel may be my new favorite author.

That's funny-even before I scrolled down, when I just saw your question I thought-"oooh 'Night'"!

It is a good book, but you will be emotional. DaVinci code is great, and I personally like the classics like Les Miserables (Victor Hugo) and Tale of Two Cities (Charles Dickens), Gone With the wind is good to read, and the sequel-though its not written by the same author-is very good, which is called of all things-"Scarlett"..awwww......
