I am loosing my state health insurance (more like a discount program). I will not be able to afford going to National Jewish for clinic visit. Any know any good doctors-- pulmonologist, endocrinologist and gastro doctor in the Denver area??

Yes, I will be asking for referrals from doctors tomorrow at clinic but looking for other referrals as well--- who is nice to work with, not too expensive, and those who know CF.

Thanks for you help!! Not looking forward to changing doctors but it must be done.

Dear Mamerth:

I'm not sure if this information will help you, but it's worth a try.

I won't use the CF clinic at National Jewish, for a number of reasons, although I've grown up in Colorado and tried to use both the Clinic when it was at the old CU site in the 80s and 90s, when it moved to NJH, and more recently when I came back to Denver in 2008 after being away for 3 years.

I have managed to create what I consider a great team of doctors (internist, gastro, cardio, ENT) in the South Denver area. However, over the years one area where it's tough to get a doctor willing to treat patients with CF is in pulmonology. The default response is always "Go to NJH." Recently I have made an appointment with a pulm. specialist recommended by my Internist and who has excellent credentials. I won't be seeing her until September, but it's worth a try to call her office. Talking with her staff and current patients she seems enthusiastic, empathetic and qualified. I will be seeing her through my insurance, so I'm not sure if she's affordable for you, or if there are other sources to help. However, I think calling her office may be a great place to start:

Dr. Dawn Stanley,
10103 Ridgegate Parkway SUITE 345
Lone Tree, CO, 80124
Phone Number: (303) 225-4220

I also believe that my internist is fantastic. If you want to talk with her or her staff, her name is Dr. Susan Savage, 303-798- 4404. You can tell her that Kris Bicknell suggested you call her.

Wish you the best and hope that this helps.

Kris.
