My advice is to get active.

Taking positive action to improve the situation fives your child the best hope of all.

So, do everything you can to participate in clinical trials. Drug developmet slows when we don't have CFers participating in these drug trials. And if new meds don't come out, your child's life expectancy doesn't rise.

Fund raise. Drug development is expensive and trials won't progress without funding. Again, this will shorten your child's life.

So it's up to u to extend your child's life. Do anything you can to enroll in clinical studies and raise money for the cF Foundation.

Hope for your child comes from YOUR actions

DS is 6 -- started going to daycare as a baby. Preschool when he was two. Swimming lessons, gymnastics, tennis, baseball, ice skating. Sunday school. Goes to public school. He's a very busy boy. A very happy social guy. Sure we had a rough start and a couple bumps along the way. Similar fears about his future, what ifs...

With each milestone -- ear infection, stomach bug.. We feel a little more confident that we can handle things. Take things one step at a time. Get into a routine and ENJOY your child. That your child is a NORMAL little one who just needs a few extra things to keep him healthy and happy,

For what it's worth, with the treatments available today, I think a child born with CF can be expected to live well beyond whatever median expectancy we have now. In my lifetime, life expectancy has risen nearly 20 years. I'm not exactly an optimistic person by nature, but I am confident this trend will continue until the expected life expectancy of a CFer is as long enough to be considered "normal". My hunch is this will happen incrementally and not with a sudden "cure", but who knows, that could happen too. Wouldn't that be great!

Hello

I was DX at 8 by the Docs, But Dx by my Mother 2 years before.
They called Her an over protective Mother.. Boy were there faces Red when She
was Proved Correct. it was not that She wanted me to have Cf, But The Correct
Treatment for Cf. Well I finally got it.
My Mother was told I would not make it to 12 then 16 18 and so on..
After the Proper DX and treatment My Health improved, I started playing
sports ( Little League ) at 9 years old.
My Parents Never Held me back from trying any Sport i wanted to Try.
I always felt I had to Push harder then the " normal " Kids. But I also
found that in many areas I Was faster and stronger that the average child
and Teen. At about 12 my Father started me on light weights that progressed
to heavy weights. In 10th grade 210 lbs was my bench press work out weight.
I wrestled all through High School. ( brag O bit ) I was never pinned.
I did how ever Pin 2 of my coached <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> < yes It was fun lol..

I am a older Cfer, But On this site I am not close to the Oldest : )

I also want to add that I had a couple of years that I was lax in my
meds, but Now and most of my Life I have been pretty ridgid about Treatments
and Meds.
I try and stay on top of things. the first sign of a issue, I jump on it
with Both Feet...
