New Influenza Prevention

since a recent discovery of infected people in Japan, just my company alone has made very strict rules in regards to preventing the spread of the new virus.

First, they stated that any body temperature over 38 degrees celcius gives you an automatic sick day. They said not to come to work with a temperature over 38.

Then, I had just received three masks that are requested by the company to use during my commute.

They have those handy "wet-nap" tissues that everyone can use just one per day, to wipe their hands of any "cooties" (not just the virus).

My thought is that if they were considering on making such an investment to prevent spreading, I was wondering if using anti-bacterial alcohol to spray on the hands, and also have some gargling medicine available.

I don't mind such precautions, but I am concerned whether just having a lung infection will put my body temp above 37degrees C.

What kind of preventative action is being taken where you are all at?

We got an email encouraging people to wash their hands and things like that. No specific requirements have been instituted where I work.

We were sent an email stating that staff was not to come in if they were running a temperature or coughing. Obviously though, it is not being enforced, or I wouldn't be working. There is not an hour that goes by that I can keep from coughing. Luckily, everyone at my school knows about my condition. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

We had a case at the school where I work...one case and there are probably 1300 kids and staff there. We just stressed that children and staff shouldnt come to school and wash hands constantly. I think we sent the notice with precautions (and a little checklist to help parents decide) home four times in the span of a week. The checklist said if your child has a fever AND a cough. How will your company enforce the new policy? Are they checking temps at the door? People at my school do NOT know about my CF and I didnt have any problems even though I cough all the time...its just a natural thing and people are used to it. We also got a bottle of a special cleaner for each classroom...in addition to what we had prior to.

I think a lot of this IS blown out of proportion, but from what I have heard is that the more it spreads NOW (even if it is not as bad as the normal flu) it will come back with a vengance next flu season...it will be more widespread and more dangerous. Whether that will happen obviously we dont know...
