New Influenza...

We live in Houston and the flu is everywhere in the past few weeks. Our family all got the flu vaccine. But this strain is not included in the vaccine. 17 of the 24 kids came down with the flu in my daughter's Kindergarten class over one weekend. We all seemed to get over it quickly with tami-flu, BUT seems my son caught another virus this week and we checked him in to the hospital last night with pneumonia. He actually is doing very well though, just coughing too much. My kid's pediatrician said this strain originated in Australia last year but too late to get in the vaccine.

My mom mentioned she saw on the news the other night, that this year there is a strain of flu that the flu shot didnt cover. I wonder if that what your wife is referring to. Ugggggg It's a shame there isnt a way to ward it off for good ( the flu virus) and be done with it permanently

In my community there is a great deal of Influenza B - not a type the vaccine they developed for this year targets. People are sick for at least 1 week - often more.

I am now on Tamiflu as is everyone in my family for prophylaxis. So of course we are watching it. My sister is also positive for the flu even though she also had the flu shot (this is what prompted my doc to check for the flu)
