1. do they screen for cf in New Mexico?

2. when they screen for cf, how many mutations are they screening for and is it different in each state?

According to the CFF, New Mexico is one of the states that DOES screen for CF. I checked my state health department's website to see exactly what they screen for, but it just says they screen for CF -- send the samples to a lab in Iowa, no other details.

Newborn screning is a two tiered process. First step, measurement of the IRT (immuno reactive typsin) in dried blood spots. Second, if the IRT levels are in the top 5% further teststing like the sweat test or genetic testing is then done. Babies whose IRT is in the top 0.2% of results without identifiable mutations are then called "screen positive."
