It's true that abx kill good bacteria too. I agree with your doc. Also, when abx are necessary, it's a good idea to take a probiotic too, so that the good bacteria can be replaced.

I would keep a close eye on the cough as well. Increase the chest pt, I also throw in an extra albuterol neb to open the airways. Increase fluids(whatever your baby is drinking). Warm bath would help get the gunk out of my daughter's nose, lots of rest. Did they culture your baby at the visit? It is good to know if she is growing something in her sputum. Sometimes, a cold or virus sets up a situation in CF that lets the bacteria flourish; thus causing the Cf'er to need antibiotics. It's hard when they are babies and just getting to know whow they respond to colds/viruses. I do know that (for my daughter anyway) a cough that is keeping her up at night for a few nights in a row, weight loss with cough, fever with cough, coughing and choking on mucus, etc may warrant additional antibiotics. I like to avoid the antibiotics if possible; but in CF they can be vital to protecting your child's lungs from damage.
