Noisy Nebulizer

We use a DeVillbiss Pulmoaid for DS's regular compressor/nebulizer. We've had it for little over a year. Lately I swear it's just getting louder and louder. Not sure if it's the outside cover rattling/vibrating against the machine or what... I just changed the filter last week and vacuumed it off/wiped the exterior, which I do about once a week.

How often do you need to take in a nebulizer for service? It seems to be working fine, it's just loud. Liza

We've had compressors do this before (The SportNeb) - it meant that some of the internal parts had become worn. At the same time, we noticed that the time to do neb treatments had been slowly creeping up.

I think it would probably be best to have it taken in for service.

yep time for service. I only send my compressors in for service when they have a symptom

I trade in my compressor for a new one every 2-3 years. Its around that time that I notice the motor starting to conk out and get louder. I have an Inspiration.

Since I use the Pari eFlow, I do inhale a bit more often, because its so small, quiet and fast. You can take it with you if you want and I think also use in the car (never tried that) and you don´t hear anything! So if you need a new one, you could think about that one.

Well the bad news is that this is our spare nebulizer that isn't covered under insurance.

Good news is, that it's still covered under warranty, so it'll either be repaired or we'll get a new one.

Other bad news is that we have to send this one in for repairs.

Good news is that the Pari will work. Bad news is that it's Tobi month, so tobi takes 10-15 minutes longer on that machine.

When DS was diagnosed, he was in the NICU in the cities, so the RT with the CF program got us the pari from Apria. A prescription was written for it by out doctor and insurance covered it. I was shocked at what they charged insurance 'cuz I'd been pricing out spare nebulizers for the lake home. I could find a pari proneb online for $79-100 -- brand new. Apria charged $365!

Must've just gotten a faulty Devillbiss 'cuz we've got a spare from a cousin that's over 15 years old, which we keep at the outlaws -- it works like a charm. In fact, I might have to go borrow that one until this one gets repaired.

Ugh - mine does this too. I've only had for about 2 years now, and it has gotten a loud almost shrill sound to it. It is the Utra Pari (which I hate anyway over the old version).

I almost wonder if the mucomyst builds up in there? It was the only thing I could think of, as it has more vents on the sides (that are impossisble to clean!).

Yuck.

Mine starting dying slowly last year & it finally bit the dust even with changing filters etc. I went & bought one on my own because even with a rush on one covered by insurance it would take a few days. I then got the one covered by insurance so now I have a back up. Mine was gradual starting with just being loud, but no real problem in the distribution of meds at first!
