Hmmm
I just got off the phone with our clinic to let them know that after three weeks on bactrim and another three weeks on clindamycin, Andrew is still coughing up some stuff we're not used to. Not a ton of it, but enough that now we expect to see it at least the first couple of times he coughs during his cpt.
I basically just wanted to hear them say that that's normal and to keep doing what we're doing. But, today I found out he was also growing aspergillus the last time he was cultured, and they are wondering if that has something to do with this.
What should I expect from aspergillus? Is it easy to get rid of? Is aspergillus something doctors treat only if you are symptomatic, or do they always try to eradicate it? I'll hear back from our doctor shortly, but I'm just doing a little research in the meantime.
Andrew's FEV1 is still awesome, I want to keep it that way! Any advice?
Thanks!

Hi Tonya,
I am not sure how they actually treat aspergillus by itself, but i would imagine they would give him an oral antifungal like Sporanox or something of that nature.
I have an aspergilloma which is a fungus ball (of aspergillus) and they started me on Sporanox but it didnt shrink it so they switched me to Vfend which seems to be helping. I hope Andrew is feeling like new soon

My nine year old cultured Aspergillus in the spring, and her last culture it didn't show up. We did nothing to treat it, just watched her symptoms and if they were to change.

She has been allergy tested, and she is allergic to Aspergillus and her IGE levels had increased since last years blood work, but the doctor has not been concerned with it since her PFTs are high 90s.

Hope that helps

I have cultured Aspergillus and it has come and gone. I had it way back when, did not culture it until this past summer. I have been on Vfend for it. The docs seem to think my past hospital stays and frequent infections were due to the asperstinkiness
