OCD and CF

My OCD isn't too bad, I just have little tics. Like holding a pen so the label and lid line up perfectly, or saving a video game every 30 seconds. The biggest problem I have is with eating. I hate eating, always have. I'm a very very picky eater, and I find it almost impossible to eat something I dislike.

Milk was really bad for me, If I drink milk straight, I have to smell it first, and it ALWAYS smells rotten to me, when it is not (I had my family smell-test it). But the last few months I've been drinking a weight gain shake, 1300 calories twice a day, which is 2 cups of homo milk, 1 tbsp omega fatty acids (am I the only one that thinks "omega fatty asses" when I read that?), and 4 scoops (250g) of mammoth 2600 weight gain mix.

I tend to get sick of foods quickly, and stick to foods that I can "tolerate" and eat only those. For years it was hamsteaks, and that was almost literally all I ate (I was practically skin and bones).

I'm almost 18, and I want to start bulking up, but it's hard to accept the scope of how much I have to eat in order to gain the muscle mass while having CF. I know I need 5-6k calories a day, and I can't drink the weight gain shake 4 times a day (I wish!). So what are some (free, my family is poor enough, no need to see extra doctors) mental techniques that I can do to eat food I hate? I even OCD out on swallowing sometimes, like just swallowing spit I try to swallow and my mind "stops" me from doing it, really pisses me off. Anyways, I'm really starting to ramble on.

I think I know the answer already: suck it up buttercup. But that's just really really hard to do with OCD (I'm starting to conquer my fear of social encounters, and am getting a job interview in a couple days). Thanks.

I do not think you should just suck it up. OCD is serious and it tends to get worse, not better. You need to talk to a counselor, take medication, or both. Your ticks are getting in the way of your life and your health!!!

I agree that sucking it up with certain aspects is not a wise idea. The "annoying, but not hurtful things" like lining up the pen label & cap is one thing, but refusing to eat/drink something that you need for your diet is another. I think all CFers have a certain amount of OCD. Its the nature of the beast. I know for me it rears its head more when my health is unstable. I think people who have never experienced OCD put a stigma on it & dont truly understand the severity of it. In more severe cases it can be harmful! I recommend seeking help!

I would definitely reccommend getting an SSRI.

Low seratonin levels can show themselves in different ways. Some people become anorexic. Some bulemic. Some get OCD. Some get depressed. Some get panic attacks. It all comes from low seratonin levels.

Go to a psych and get some meds. I think it will help you a ton! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Definitely don't suck it up.... no reason to when low seratonin levels are NOT YOUR FAULT.
