Odd Question

I saw another thread where someone was less than satisfied with a previous doctor that didn't take the appropriate steps in her treatment and that got me to thinking--is there a governement watch-dog type agency that oversees doctors/hospitals, etc?

I have one doctor that I should probably get rid of (not my CF doctor), anyway, he doesn't always wash his hands between patients, I suspect that he doesn't change the papers on the 'table' between all patients and I'm sure there are other infractions, but I don't know if there is any place to turn in these types of situations. I've asked him to wash his hands & I sit in a chair, not on the table, so possibly my risks are somewhat minimalized, but what about the other guy that's not as paranoid about these things as I am?
He is a very knowledgeable doctor & actually listens to me and my suggestions, which seems to be becoming more of a lost art these days, so that's why I keep him around.

Would the health department be the place to turn??

One of DS's doctors is terrible about washing hands. I've become extra vigilant lately 'cuz the last time we were at the clinic the room smelled like B.O. and the waiting room kid's table was covered with a dried pink sticky substance. Guess I've never thought of complaining -- my fear is we'll get blackballed and end up like Kramer & Elaine on Seinfeld.

Thank you for the information. I wasn't aware of this organization & I assume it's in the States?
I would complain anonymously if I could so I wouldn't get blackballed.
