My husband knew about my illness from almost day 1. He went to clinic appointments with me (during our years of dating). I got really sick during college and required an at- home IV. He went with me to have it put in (I hate needles) and learned how to give me the meds (I was weaker than weak). A month later he proposed.
He acts are unaffected by my CF but when I am sick he wears the fear all over his face. My husband was not into religion until I was admitted for a severe gall bladder attack (and removal). Over night he was praying, talking to our pastor and getting involved in church (full force). He gave a testimony in church a few weeks later that brought me to tears. He is even making plans to become a marriage counselor (something he has fought for years).
When I started coughing up blood a few months ago he was right by my slde (scared). He let me cry and be angry that this disease was finally getting its way with me.
Just in the past few weeks he has been very active in helping me get the word out about CF. He said "people need to know about this disease and we are the ones to do it".
