One more question about Creon

I asked my son's doctor and he said that since A D E & K were all fat soluble vitamins, my son would need to take them with his enzymes since that is the only way he can absorb fats. We just take them with a meal since I wouldn't know how many enzymes he would need with just a vitamin.

Good point Helen. I never thought of given enzyme's with the vits. You would think the doctor or dietition would tell you that. We have never been told that. So that will be something else I will ask the doctor too.

Thanks for the post James,,,,,,,,,,,,Karla

That doesn't sound right to me. Enzymes help to digest carbs, proteins, and fat. I've never heard that enzymes help the body break down and absorb vitamins/minerals. Besides, ADEK's are water soluable (assuming that's what we're taking). You absorb fats with enzymes....but not vit A, D, E, or K.

Just my thoughts....I could be wrong <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Welp. My understanding is that Creon doesn't break down the multivitamins, but they DO break down the fats that inturn will help the fat soluable vitamins, A D E K, get absorbed. If you aren't breaking down and absorbing that fat, you wont get the full effect from your vitamins.

Lex, they are fat soluable vitamins, not water soluable vitamins, that is why CFers are prescribed those specific vitamins. We don't absorb fats too well and we need them in abundance.
