OOPs I spilled

As unreal as this sounds.. I went to close my window tonight and pull down the blinds.. The window is over my desk..... well, as I was reaching for the window my body knocked over a full can of diet coke... I didn't realize it had knocked over and I was having a hard time getting the window down.. so the delay caused It to spill on my lap top, my digital camera, my cell phone and my daytimer...

I dried off the outside of all of these things.. but I don't know how to take them apart and clean the inside..One time when my cell phone got wet, it still worked and then 3 days later it died.... I am hoping that doesn't happen again...I wouldn't know what to do without my lap top

Any ideas????

I was married to a computer nerd, so I'll try to help you, but spills are the leading cause of laptop deaths, according to him.

1) Turn off your computer.

2) Remove any removeable parts, mouse, modem cards, printer and power cords, etc.

3) If it's a sugary liquid, use a warm washcloth to wipe off as much as you can, and then gently rock the laptop from side to side to remove fluids from the laptop, turn upside down also.

4) Repeat that with all the removeable parts.

5) Use a hair dryer on cool to dry it the rest of the way.

6) Let dry completely for 24 hours before reassembling and turning it back on.

If it doesn't work, all I can say is take it to a computer rapair guy, Ry took apart and fixed a bunch of spilled on laptops, but they can't always be fixed.

Jennifer, if it makes you feel better, I did something similar. I dumped a whole glass of wine on my keyboard! Yuck. I had to pop out every key and clean up behind it with a q-tip. It was only my first glass too. Hope you get it all cleaned up.

This is no help to you-but there is some website all about cleaning. It's like every cleaning solution. Once the dog jumoed on our new mattress-literally 20 mins after it was delivered and pooped and peed on it. So I used the site to find out how to clean it.

OOOH! OOOH! I know that one!!
As Allie suggested, follow those steps, but beware, if the power was not on when it spilled, there <b>MIGHT</b> not be any damage...however, as for your digital camera, daytimer and phone...hope you removed the batteries, (all of them, including a watch battery for the clock backup), and dry the contacts, as well as the battery. (if the spill didn't go that far, just make sure the batteries didn't get wet...the carbonization can be an excellent conductor for electricity!
If the computer keys get stuck, maybe there is some "CONTACT SPRAY" to clean, because I would suspect the sugary (even though it was diet) may cause a problem with the switch contacts.
Usually, cleaning contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol is the best alternative. in some cases, a pencil eraser, or even just a toothpick does the job!
