Organizing

I was finding it more and more difficult to organize my med routine as more stuff was being added. Some can not be taken together or have to be spaced apart or can't be taken with nexium or have to be taken first thing in the am. I am sure I have forgotten a few in the past or taken something that was not compatible with something else. Anyway, I have worked a new system and would also like any good routine tips with nebs or meds. First thing in the am I put all my meds in an "in box" type basket. I take what I need to first thing and then put it in the "out box" basket. Then I check at each meal and widdle the basket down through the day. I have also started packing a portable cooler to bring to bed with IV Zosyn and supplies. That way I don't have to get out of bed and go downstairs to run the IV. I can stay in bed and get what feels like a good 8 hours of sleep cuz I don't fully wake up for the meds. I would LOVE any other good routine tips, time-savers or whatever. As we all know, CF is a huge time-management issue.

What I kept having problems with was remembering to take the Prilosec a half hour before I ate breakfast. So I brought the bottle to my bathroom upstairs along with some spit (aka dixie cups). I wake up do all my normal stuff (shower, get dressed, dry hair) then I will do my saline nasal rinse (also upstairs bathroom), advair and flonase. Then I brush my teeth and take the prilosec...this is all before I even go downstairs. I like to not have to go back upstairs once I am ready.

Then I go downstairs and do nebs. I figure those are about a half hour or more, so that is enough time for my prilosec to start working. So for my albuterol and HTS I use the Pari LC plus cup and for the Pulmo I use the sidstream...so I have a paper plate that I put them all on when I wash them (so they can air dry). I put the Alb and Pulmo on the same plate b/c they are different and I can tell them apart. So then I go in the fridge, grab the Pulmo and put it on the plate...then I do the same with the other two on thier respective plates. Then I sit and do them (alb, pulmo, HTS). Then when I am taking pills and stuff with my meals, I usually line up all the bottles on one side of the glass I am using and then once I take them line them up on the other side. I always take them in the same order (Ultrase, Motrin, Zyrtec, SourceCF softgel, abx if I have one).

Caitlin,
I like the paper plate idea. Don't you use the LC Plus for pulmo though?? I have never heard of sidestream.

what i do is set up reminders on my computer.

whether it's on outlook or on iCal on my Mac, I have reminders pop up to remind me to do various things : zithromax & vitamin K every other day (i could never remember that on my own). when to start & stop colistin. allergy shot once a week. calcium twice a day.

when i'm on cipro and i can't take it less than 6 hours after or 2 hours before any calcium (multivitamin or dairy) i have my calendar remind me of the time to take the cipro and vitamins.

i don't know how i would keep track without the computer reminders <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
