No offense to any individual in particular here at all intended-but see this is why people are so crazy and take these things out of hand. Animals are animals in the end-we love them, but they are still animals. They will do things sometime that are unpredictable, very true. But I'm sorry-I've bred and shown boxers my whole life and yes-you can tell when dogs are playing and when they are attacking or about to attack. Maybe not everyone can, granted-but many dog owners attuned with their dogs can.
Interesting how freak has a pic of a dalmatian-not sure if you have had dealings with dog shows freak, but dalmatians have a large reputation of being violent. People try to avoid them. At the dog competitions I've dealt with-its them and the standard poodles everyone gets wary of. Funny, I have no idea why they have that rap. So it goes to show you that any dog of any breed can be nasty at some time.
The bottom line is-Julie didn't do anything wrong! She had her dogs leashed. But b/c she didn't feel well, she had to let go. It was an accident.

Something similar happened to me last week-my neighbors dog, a bichon-poodle mix about 10 lbs came charging up my lawn to play with my dog-a boxer. I had her on a leash and was coming out of the front door. The porch was very icy and she saw the little dog and charged at her to play-since I am pregnant I didn't want to risk falling down the stairs and injuring my baby!!! So I let go. Of course I knew they were only playing, which they were and took of into woods happy as larks.
Well I RAN next door to my inlaws and called the cops for daring to let their dog out to mess up my perfect day....-NO! I got up, yelled at my dog which made her stop in her tracks and come back to me, and went inside and forgot about it.
People need to chill.
Julie-pay the ticket, you don't have a prayer to win this.<img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">
Everyone else-get off your high horses and go kiss your puppies and tell them you love them, b/c an accident with a dog can happen to anyone.

Automobile accidents are called that because they are accidents, but u still get a ticket if your at fault. And even some murders are accidents.

Julie, I just thougt of something...it's probably too late to pay the ticket, cause i'm sure it double after like 7 or 14 days, right? So when u go to court hopefully, because it's been so long since the incident the lady and/or cop will not show up, so they will not be able to proceed with the case. And if they do the judge will realize how silly this whole thing is, and that it should have never resulted in a ticket in the first place.

Good luck

I'd pay the ticket and move on.

You have no clue if this woman was attacked by a dog as a child, hence having a crippling fear of large dogs.

This time last year the two large dogs belonging to my neighbors across the street ran off their leashes in a very similar incident to this and mauled a woman who was walking by. I witnessed every second of the attack, it was horrifying and I had to intervene. These dogs had her knocked down and had bitten her several times before I could even cross the street.

<i>The funny thing about it? The owners couldn't stop talking about how well behaved their dogs had always been before the incident. </i>

I have great fears about dog owners who don't understand the potential strength of their dogs. After I watched my neighbors dogs tear into that woman, I couldn't help but wonder over and over again, what if this had been a child?

Fr3ak... again, cutest dalm ever and thank you for doing a little dog education!

But thats my point-
terrible accidents do happen-like you said, by car, murder or a dog mauling a person or child. Those scenarios call for extreme measures like suing or calling authorities. Nothing happened here. That was the only point I was trying to make. And I hate when people take situations like this-like that woman did-and make it a big deal and say what if it had been a child, or what if they had bit my dog?!, if nothing happened!
10 years ago in most neighborhoods like mine, people would just walk away from Julie's situation with a quick apology and a have a nice day. Whatever happened to that? Thats all I was trying to say. No offense to anyone intended.

Christian, I totally understand where you're coming from... The social environment now is obviously not one where people are shaking hands at the end of such an encounter, instead they are calling the police and tickets are getting written.

I understand both sides of this, but seriously, nothing drives me more crazy than people with big dogs who cannot or do not control them and it seems to me like someone in this situation should just suck it up, realize a mistake was made, pay the ticket and move on.

Christian, your right nothing happen, but it could of, and thank GOd it didint. And the ticket probably now made Julie realize as she stated, she would not take the dogs out again in that condition.

There are a lot of people afraid of big dogs, but yes, probably what set her off is the comment Julie made about her as a mother. Us as mothers know how sensitive we can be when attacked. Yes it was dumb of her closing her door while her son was still outside, but I'm sure it was only for a second and after Julie and retrived her dogs and then she returned quick enough, or she would have never heard Julie's comment

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Interesting how freak has a pic of a dalmatian-not sure if you have had dealings with dog shows freak</end quote></div>

Yes I have had many dealings with dog shows, and I have vowed never to go to them again LOL....I have seen so many things I don't like at shows that I can't bring myself to be in that situation....

Irresponsibly bred Dalmatians are frequently hyperactive. Even frequent exercise may not settle them. Since the Dalmatian essentially came from working temperament, they should be confident, alert the family to strangers, and, if need be, protect their family. To ensure that the dog does not become aggressive, it is necessary to provide ample opportunity for socialization. The dog must meet a variety of people and other dogs as a puppy so it can learn to distinguish friend from foe as an adult. Puppies that are not given ample socialization may become aggressive or fear-aggressive, that is they snap or bite because they are afraid of people.
