Pain from Osteoporosis medicine

The Infusion is another option, which is only given every 3 months, Just dont read my post below...

If you go with the infusion expect to feel like sh!t for a around a week. chronic bone pain, low grade fever, vomiting etc...

But it only lasts a week if thats any consolation!

Other then that I'm in the same boat, ya damned if ya do and ya damned if ya don't

I was on fosomax, and had bad pain in my legs.. One doc said it was growing pains, all i know it was hurting bad and was discontinued... I'm still confused about what i should be taking as far as calcium.. one dr says one thing another says some thing else - oy... Joni 55 y/o f w c/f

PeteRose, what you are experiencing is bone pain. I tried Actonel and had terrible pain. I had to take a narcotic for the pain. It lasted from one pill to the next. I was unable to stand straight up, I would breathe shallow due to the pain and treatments (specially the vest or manual CPT) were a nightmare. I had to stop taking Actonel. I then tried Boniva, which was a good medicine. The bone pain was not as bad, however I experianced high fevers with Boniva and the doctors do not know why. Now I am taking Forteo. It is a daily injection. It is like an insulin pen. It is done over a 24 months period, so its quite a commitment. They used it as a last resort for me because I could not handle the side effects from the pills. The Forteo has worked very well for me. It actually rebuilds the bone that you have lost, not just keep you from loosing more. My osteoporosis has greatly improved and upgraded to osteopenia. And unlike the pill if I start to experience discomfort with Forteo, I can lay down. So I take it at night before I go to bed so I can sleep through the side effects. When I wake up, I feel fine. I was told that I may have to take a maintanence medicine after I finish with the shot, but they will see how my bones are looking after one year of completing the shot. We havent really discussed what treatment that will be. Forteo maybe something you want to ask your doctor about.

I know the above post is an old one; but, I need help. I have been taking Boniva reluctantly. I find it hard to motivate myself to take it. Mainly because I have gotten many opinions about it. Many docs say I should take it; however, the bone expert at the Cleveland Clinic told me there is no empirical data to indicate that drugs like boniva are beneficial for premenapausal sp? women. He told me to not take it if I did not want to because there is no data to support it and even the definition of osteporosis by the world health organization is a gray area.

I decided to continue taking it; but, it is a miserable @#%#@ of a drug. I now feel like I have the flu and I am pissed that I took this piece of @#$% drug. I work soooo hard to feel good and to take one pill that brings me down. I know others have taken this class of drugs....so please tell me I will feel better within a few days. It has done this to me before so I know it is the Boniva.

What should I do about continuing to take this drug. I want to follow doctors advice; but, man this class of drugs is a bit scarier than Sally Fields would have you believe.
