Pain In Lower Right back/side

Yesterday I was coughing, nothing hard at all and felt this large POP in my lower right side sort of on the back. I couldnt breathe in deep, cough or move without severe pain. I went straight to the ER, they did xrays but saw nothing. They sent me home saying that it was a bruised rib and maybe a torn tendon or muscle. The thing is I had been having some pain in that area for the past 2 weeks. I thought maybe it was gallstones, or then an infection when I coughed up blood, but I went into the hospital last week and started on ivs. Im really confused and have no idea why I would have this pain and then yesterday this large pop feeling in that area. I am pretty much confined to the couch and cant move. Any ides?
