Hello, I am a 19 year old w/ CF and CFRD....I often get pleurisy whaen I get a lung infection....It only affects the left side and it puts a strain on my shoulder whenever i breath in....my doc has been trying all sorts of meds to relieve the pain....vicodin 5-500....morphine 30 mg. Extended release.....800 mg. Ibuprofen and toridol....but nothing is helping the excruciating pain I feel....has anyone suffered from the same thing? (pleurisy) if so what pain medication if any worked the best for u?.....If uv ever had pleurisy than u know the kind of pain im talking about....one good thing is my doctor pretty much asks me what i want for the pain so any help would be great.....preferably a pain med that is not a narcotic...cause that just brings a whole different problem into the scene when im better and i need to get off whatever pain med im on. i would like to try and avoid withdrawls if neccesary but im open to any pain med at this point narcotic or not....DAN <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hey Frankie,

I know how you feel. I think it is bulls**t that doctors will not help up when we are in pain. I get lots of different kinds of pain. My chest burns and hurts so bad sometimes that it really sucks to take a breath. Sometimes I get CF related Arthrosis when I first start spiking fevers. Most days I feel like gravity is pulling me to the ground. And lots of other stuff. When I do get pain meds I usually get Lortabs. I feel so much better when I have them, they seem to give me energy and I actually feel like doing stuff, mostly because it dowsn't hurt to move. My doctor will not prescribe them, well that was before I went off on her, and told her I am not a drug addict. I don't think we should have to suffer when there are things that can help us and make up feel better. I have a high tolerance for them though, because I used to get chronic pancreatitis once a month for 4 years, so I was on them all the time. I wish I could get the doctor to pay attention, but don't know how to do it. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. Donna

I have never been in ALOT of pain, but I do know I would try to avoid painkillers as much as possible if I was in pain. You can get addicted very easily, my friends mom got addicted to Vikadin after she was in a car accident and broke her back. I duno how much pain you guys are in and I don't know much about the different kinds of painkillers, but i do know to be VERY carfefull you dont become dependant on the painkillers.

Hey huys, I just wanted to share a little bit of im=nfo I heard. I know someone that has a daughter with that wanted pain pills all the time for her pain but her doc would never give her any. When it came down to her needing a lung transplant they made sure she wasn't on any pain meds, if she was she wouldn't have been able to have her transplant. I don't really know why but it might something to ask your doc.
