By the way, I forgot to mention that my in-laws only live 2 miles a way, which I suppose is even worse! When we visit we only stay for about 1/2 an hour max because of the smoke, and they can't even last without a cigarette for that short time. Pathetic 'eh? Thanks for listening. Ahhh that does make a difference. Okay then my best suggestion would be to invite them over to your house, where they don't have the choice of smoking inside. Tell them they have the right to smoke in their own house, but if they want to see their granddaughter, they do it in a SMOKE-FREE zone.

My in laws smoked in there house too. there was always a cloud of smoke in the house. It got to the point where I told my wife I would not set foot in there house again. They would invite us over for dinner and my answer was always no.

You are right it is their house and they can do whatever they want in there house, you can make the choice to not go over there.

I HAD the same problems with various realtives in the past. I explained that I just could no longer be around any smoke, put my foot down, and set the rules I needed to preserve my health. If they couldn't understand or support my decision then I couldn't see them. Everyone I know is very supportive of me so, thank god, it was never a problem after that. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I even tole painted and posted a cute little 'no smoking' sign on my front porch as a reminder.

If they really think the world of your daughters, then they will understand why you make the choice to not visit their home. Invite them to your house with the stipulation that they must smoke outside, far from the house.

I know this may seem selfish to set rules but our health is more important then their need to smoke.
