Okay good suggestions so far.
Here is my main suggestion:
**Make sure to explain to patients what PFT's are. What there score is and what it means.
This was not done for me and I never new to what extent my CF was progressing.
I was one of the patients who if I felt okay, less information was best...BIG Mistake on my part. Some patients will ask questions and that's good. But Doctors need to throughly explain PFT's and what we need to do to keep them up. I was always told what to do to stay healthy but it fell on deaf ears because all I knew was I felt okay. Oh, and saying your FEV1 is 1.7 doesn't explain the situation. We need to know what percentage that is. My RT's still don't understand that. They always like, "Oh that's right, your the one who wants to know what his percentage is." We'll, duh, 1.5 doesn't mean a whole lot to me.
**Another suggestion would be to go over with patients the process of sterilizing nebs. There are so many different Doctors saying so many different things.
