Ellie was having some difficulty today with her BMs...she's "cleared" most of it, but the consistency wasn't such that I would think indicates blockage. I'm not concerned about a blockage at this point, but I am concerned about the consistency of BM that does cause a blockage. If she had a difficult time passing what I saw today (clay-like, formed, not hard), would I expect different with an actual blockage? From my experience with animals and obstipation, stool becomes extremely dry as it sits in the colon...what actually occurs with cystic fibrosis obstipation episodes?

I am not sure what the specific "consistency" would be, but another problem that you should look at is if there is a "backup". My appetite is wrecked if I don't drink Mirilax 2-3 times a week because the stool "backs up" (for lack of a better term) and makes my body think I am full/have eaten too much.

When DS was a baby he'd have times when he'd be constipated, yet still be stooling. Usually it was fairly loose, but his tummy would be distended and he'd drink less formula. We'd usually give him some milk of magnesia for a few days to get him cleaned out. When we switched to whole milk he had drier, harder stools.

With his obstruction this past summer, he got sick and we thought he had a stomach bug. Had a low grade fever, was vomiting, but was still stooling that morning. But the next morning he didn't, so we brought him in.
