PFT Headaches??

I am just curious to see if anyone else out there gets a headache (similiar to the "ice cream" headache, but worse) while you're doing your PFT's or when you have to cough real deeply?I wondered if it's just me or others have this problem too.

Yes, it's from the pressure. I get it bad sometimes. It normally subsides after about 15 minutes, but if it sticks around I use a little pot and that relieves it.

Yeah I get those after PFTs or after too much coughing. It ends up feeling like the vein in my forehead is going to burst. I actually got my CF doc to prescribe tylenol w/codeine for these instances that I carry in my purse with me.

apparently its intercranial pressure or something like that..........holding my head very tightly sometimes lessens the pain. but other than that i think we are stuck with it!

I've gotten those before and when I cough sometimes. Most of the time it's because my O2 drops real low, I've checked my pulse ox during these and it's sometimes in the 70's. I also get them if I'm walking up hill or climbing stairs.Martha, 29, CF

Thanks for your responses, I'm glad I'm not alone! I was starting to wonder if it was something serious because sometimes I almost pass out or feel like I'm going to when I get these terrible headaches

Hi,headaches can also come from muscle/neck pains, which you usually get because of the coughing. Maybe it could help to get massages.Uli,41,with cf
