Normally they will pull it right after. I have had the IV team tell me that sometimes people can leave them in for a couple of months, but those were people who were doing chemo.

I used to have a specially made sleeve for my arm when I had PICC lines but when I got my first port 8 years ago I tossed it. I did just find this in a Google search though ... <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.drycorp.com/content/how-it-works-picc-line-protector/index.html

</a>Seems pretty reliable. Maybe its worth a shot? Other than that saran wrap with medical tape at both ends and along the seam works well for a shower/bath as long as the limb isn't submersed. I definitely wouldn't recommend that combo for swimming at all though.

PICCs can stay in for an extended period of time. I had one with my pregnancy and had it in for 4 and a half months. They just have to be monitored closely for infection and leakage problems.
The best day to day wrap I came up with for mine was a tube sock with the foot end cut off. I even color coordinated my 'wraps' with my outfits. LOL. I never got a good handle on how to wrap mine for the shower so I just took baths and kept my arm out of the water.
