PICC placement

I had a bad day today with a PICC placement, ughh! First of all, is this all that unusual? They are thinking it is from dehydration. I FEEL dehydrated and I did have a bleed this week. I have only ever had 3 PICC lines. They say I have good veins and that they are getting a nice blood return but that they can't thread the dang thing. It was so frustrating.

Anyway, I need some encouraging words that this is not that unusual and that if I drink a lot through the weekend that when I go back in on Monday things will be OK. I feel like they will be; but, I just need to hear some positive stuff. I have NEVER had this happen with the other 3 lines I had.

The last time I had a picc line put in, I was actually in with a peripheal line getting fluids a few days before the picc was placed.

They had no issues getting it in that time. Unlike the time before where they tried 3 times to no avail. Each time they had difficulties I was running fevers & dehyrated so I swear I will deal with the peripheal for a few days to get an easier picc insert.

Melissa.....thanks for the reply. That makes a lot of sense. I actually tried to talk them into doing some IV hydration. I guess they need doc's orders for ALL things...I tried. I just know when I am dehydrated....there is just a certain feeling you get. I am feeling a bit better tonight about it all and trying to make light of it so I don't dread Monday morning. I was so upset about it that when the nurse asked me what my new doctor's first name was I couldn't even remember and started weeping<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I was pretty pathetic on that table today. I guess we all have our pathetic moments.
