Hi guys,

I'm posting this in adults because I figure more of you probably have experience with this. Tonight after hts, pulmozyme, and vest, we started huffing and Andrew repeatedly coughed up pink-tinged sputum. He has not had anything red today..no candy, no gum, no juice. Should I worry about this? I mean, it was not deep red at all, and it was streaky, not completely pink. I would think it was maybe from his sinuses if it was not repeatedly brought up by deep, "up from the lungs" type coughs. Is this normal? He just finished iv meds..could it have something to do with that?

I would have to say it is blood streaked but I am not sure. Every once in a while I will get blood streaks in mine but nothing major. Call his DR and see what they say. It can't hurt to ask

I get that sometimes also. Its usually blood streaked sputum, if it isnt from food or a drink. If this is something new to him maybe a call to the Dr. wouldnt be a bad idea, like Amy said.

If this is the first time, you do need to let the doctor know, so they can at least put it in his chart. Usually for me, pink/lightly streaked sputum indicates inflamation or irritation (dust, allergies, etc.)
