URGH!!!

So, its 2:45 am and I was doing my late-night meds and after the first med my PARI compressor crapped out on me! Its been getting consistantly louder so I already have the return authorization number from PARI to send it in (called them Friday), but I was hoping it would last until Tuesday when I'd get my spare from my parents (2 hours away). Now, I can't even finish my coli or anything else for tonight OR tomorrow's meds!

I'm terrified what I'll do without nebs for that long. I've NEVER gone without my morning treatments plus I'm on coli so I need to be routine about it. Grrrrr.....

Any ideas where I could get a spare compressor for ONE DAY!?!? Do I need my doc to call in an rx for it somewhere to rent one in the meantime while PARI gets mine and fixes it? I'm sure this will be a long drawn-out process with calling doc, waiting for return call, calling place to get compressor, picking it up, etc. etc. All while being very SOB from no treatments!

Does anyone know if there is a way to do your nebs from your liquid oxygen (the big cylinder you fill liquid O2 from)? I'm desperate!!!

Thanks,

What I would do before you call the doc is I would try to find a medical supplier in your area that would hae what you are looking for - meaning the type of compressor you need OR a compressor in general.

If you have to call them to check before calling your doc then do it. You can also ask if there is anything in particular that they need to get you one for the day or so.

After you have the name and number of the place and know what information you will need the doc to give them then call and just stress how important it is to get this done asap. You may be surprised it may not take them long to get it set up for you if you have all the information for them.

I had to do this after my transplant because I was put on Colistin nebbed for my sinuses for a little over a week. I had no nebs at the time so I had to track down a place that I could get them here. By me doing it for my docs office it was done within 3 hours and I was able to go to the med supplier and pick up what I needed. Whereas I waited for them for 2 hours and they were still trying to find a place to get them at because they were thinking mail order instead of local that and with everything else they deal with the didn't have the time to dedicate to MY issues like I did.

Good luck and hope you get what you need.

While you wait, you might want to open up the case to see if there is a broken mount or something else obvious that you could glue/tape together to get it to run again.

My son's compressor died suddenly a while back and I had no spare so I opened the case - figured I had nothing to lose by seeing if there was anything obvious I could fix. It turned out the motor was suspended on little rubber donuts on top of three plastic legs on each side of the case. One of the legs on one side of the case was broken and the motor fell off its mount. I was able to set the motor on the mounts on the other side of the case and run it for a couple days resting on that side while I waited for a new one.

I know with one of ours, my husband opened up the case and used compressed air and cleaned out some of the dust until I could take it in. It failed over a weekend as well.

With the Devilbiss, I had to take it to the DME on the south side of town and have them mail it out -- past experience was that it would take 2-3 weeks before a replacement arrived, so hopefully Pari's a little more on the ball. The DME did offer to rent one to us, but we had a spare.

We actually have two compressors that I purchased online -- one we use for everyday and the other is for when DS falls asleep or when we travel. PLUS, we have an old devilbiss from a cousin that's about 14 years old that still works like a charm.
