Port accessed, no meds yet

Well that should say it all. I got my Mediport accessed today for some home IV's. Well I felt fine at the dr's office, then as the day wore on, the worse and I worse I feel.
I have body aches, fever of 100.9, migraine (can't keep eyes open), nausea, etc. I feel absolutly awful.....and this is all before even starting meds.

Do any of you feel like this after you get accessed? I always have Merropennam (sp) & Tobra and feel like crap....but I'm thinking, since I didn't start meds yet and feel like I always do when starting IV's, is this needle making me feel horrible?

My dr's prescribe Zofran for nausea so I started that (feeling like a fool for not even having IV's started yet). It's starting to help but everytime I stand up, I swear, I feel like the top of my head is going to explode!!!

If any of you have advice on this or have been thru this, I'd appreciate your response.

If you have not had any meds yet and you started feeling like this only after you were accessed, you could possibly have an infection in your port and that can be very serious.....

You need to call a doc ASAP..

I agree, Kelli, that sounds like an infection. Please let us know that everything is ok, but call the doctors asap.

Ditto on what everyone else has said...it could easily be a line infection especially how you describe your symptoms. Please contact a doc ASAP...you are in my thoughts and prayers, Jenn
