I've had two ports over the last 16 years. What gage they use to access the port depends on whether they are drawing blood or just pushing antibiotics. What length they use depends on the port and whether they are leaving it in. A 3/4 inch usually sits flush to the skin on me but if they are just accessing it and drawing blood for it's monthly flush then the often use the 1" when that's what's available and I don't really care. Does that help?
